Biographies

Marc Karstaedt has almost 30 years of experience serving the needs of the global energy and trading industry. As a graduate of the University of Alberta, Marc began his career in the Calgary oil patch, gravitating towards the Energy Trading and Marketing sector in the mid-80s. In the early 90s, Marc was one of the founders of the world’s first Natural Gas Exchange (QuickTrade), which pioneered the use of electronic trading and offered a revolutionary physical clearing service.

Mike Wilczek joined Platts in 1999 covering the Western US power market just in time for the California energy crisis. He established Platts’ forward power curves in 2001. Before joining Platts, Mike reported on Petrochemical markets in Asia through the boom-bust years the industry and region faced in the 1990s.

Dr. Anguel Grigorov is leading the natural gas and power mark-to-market production teams as well as Platts’ quantitative modeling and research efforts. On top of having a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Sofia and an MBA from Vanderbilt University, Anguel has 15 years of risk management and quantitative modeling experience. During his 10+ year working in energy markets, he has been involved in devising quantitative tools, frameworks and strategies as well as catering to the risk management and trading needs of companies like Enron Corp., LyondellBasell and Centrica, PLC. Anguel has worked on creating forward curves for natural gas, power, oil and products and petrochemical commodities for much of his career.

Brian Scheid has been based in Washington, DC since 2010 and covers the NYMEX natural gas futures market and the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission for a variety of Platts publications. Prior to joining Platts, Brian covered international trade policy for a newsletter and worked for newspapers in Connecticut, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

Randy Wilson has more than twenty years experience as a risk management professional within the financial services and energy sectors. He currently leads a team that helps energy companies manage issues around liquidity, market risk, financial reporting, and valuation. He has written several articles on derivative accounting and fair value measurement, and is a frequent presenter at energy-focused risk management events. He provides valuation services to energy companies on an outsourced basis and is active in helping companies prepare for compliance with pending Dodd-Frank legislation.

Evan Zuckert has more than twenty-five years of experience in derivative product origination and capital markets serving the energy and natural resource sectors. Evan works with market participants to achieve readiness around pending Dodd-Frank rules, as well as provides valuation support for clients transacting in the energy derivative markets. Prior to joining Eco Risk, Evan was a Managing Director at BNP Paribas, where he was responsible for the origination of structured products incorporating derivative and capital for energy sector clients in North America. Evan held similar origination roles in debt and derivative origination for Merrill Lynch and Phibro Energy (Salomon Inc.) in Europe and the Far East.
